We have been working with this piece for a number of years now. I think it might be like six or seven. I'm not really that good with keeping track of time, but we have had this piece for a very long time. If you have been following us for a while now, you will remember that a few years back we listed an item for sale. This item was found during an investigation that we took part in that went down right outside of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, one of the earliest cities and the one-time capitol of The United States of America. The city holds many American traditions, however it also holds traditions that aren't unqiuely American, such as those of the Wissahickon Monks.
If you don't know who the Wissahickon Monks are, please allow me to explain. They are a group of hermit monks that originally came to the United States from Germany. They originally settled in between the city of Philadelphia and what would eventually become the hamlet of Germantown. They rescineded into a cave that is now known as the Forbidden Cave of Wissahickon. The lead monk Keplius and his followers are believed to have come to American to seek shelter from what they interpreted as the "end of world". However, it wasn't until we actually went on this investigation that they may have been here for a different reason entirely. This reason was to escape persuction of the Catholic Church who, at the time, still had a pretty heavy hand in goverment. I'm not saying that they didn't believe the world was going to end soon. I'm just saying that there is more to the story than what is told. In fact, the idea that they were hiding out in a cave outside of Philly is second to the fact that they really just needed a place to lay low for awhile and to escape persecution.
Now, what could they have done that was so bad that the Catholic Church wanted them gone so bad. My first inclination would be to say nothing, but after our investigation, we have figured it out.
